Fujitsu Siemens Computers selects Sierra Wireless HSUPA embedded module for new LIFEBOOK notebook

Newly announced LIFEBOOK P7230, with an integrated Sierra Wireless MC8780 embedded module, is demonstrated by T-Mobile at CeBIT 2007
Vancouver, B.C.-March 20, 2007

Sierra Wireless (NASDAQ: SWIR - TSX: SW) today announced that Fujitsu Siemens Computers has selected the new Sierra Wireless MC8780 embedded module for integration into the newly launched LIFEBOOK P7230 professional notebook. The LIFEBOOK P7230 is the first in the product line to migrate to the Sierra Wireless HSUPA module and is expected to begin commercial shipments in Europe this summer.

The Sierra Wireless MC8780 embedded module offers faster download speeds than previous models, with peak data rates of up to 7.2 megabits per second (Mbps). In addition, it is the first Sierra Wireless module designed for HSUPA networks, with uplink speeds more than five times faster than those available on current networks – up to 2 Mbps. The faster uplink speed is particularly important for customers who routinely send large files over the wireless network while mobile.

“Embedded UMTS enables easy data access whenever and wherever the users are. To optimize the benefits that embedded UMTS brings, speed is an integral part. The improvements to data speed and uplink provided by HSUPA technology are therefore another important step,” said Andreas Thimmel, Senior Vice President Volume Business at Fujitsu Siemens Computers. “We want the LIFEBOOK P7230 to offer the best possible mobile user experience, and collaborating with Sierra Wireless to integrate the latest in mobile broadband technology is a key part of delivering true mobility.”

“Sierra Wireless is committed to developing long term collaborative relationships with OEM customers – we believe those relationships benefit both companies and lead to better quality wireless devices,” said Jim Lahey, Vice President, EMEA for Sierra Wireless. “The migration of the Fujitsu Siemens Computers LIFEBOOK product line to next-generation Sierra Wireless modules, and the demonstration of the P7230 with embedded HSUPA technology at CeBIT, is a great example of the success of those collaborative efforts.”
