Sierra Wireless (NASDAQ: SWIR - TSX: SW) and sunrise today announced that the Sierra Wireless AirCard® 850 is now available from sunrise for use on the company’s UMTS/EDGE/GPRS network. sunrise, the first network operator in Switzerland to offer a combined UMTS/EDGE/GPRS solution that enables the best available service while roaming, is offering the AirCard 850 wireless wide area network card to customers for only CHF 1. (approximately $1 USD) when subscribing to a 24-month contract.

Ideal for mobile professionals who need access from their laptop computers to email, SMS messages, the Internet, and corporate network applications while working outside the office, the new AirCard 850 card delivers the latest in 3G wireless data technology. Out of the box, the AirCard 850 is fully functional on HSDPA, UMTS, EDGE, and GPRS networks. The AirCard 850 utilizes the 2100 MHz UMTS frequency band and offers average data rates of 500 to 800 kbps, with bursts up to 1.8 Mbps on an HSDPA network*. Ideal for frequent travelers, the AirCard 850 enables international roaming on HSDPA and UMTS networks across Europe, and on all four EDGE and GPRS frequency bands (850, 900, 1800, and 1900 MHz) used worldwide. The AirCard 850 wireless WAN card is a Type II PC Card with a slim, unextended design, allowing users to conveniently store the unit inside the laptop.
