Sierra Wireless delivers MC5720 PCI Express Mini Card for "AirCard Enabled™" mobile computing

Certified embedded module for EV-DO networks is integrated and available on select models of ThinkPad Z60t and Z60m notebooks
Vancouver, B.C.-September 21, 2005
Sierra Wireless (NASDAQ: SWIR - TSX: SW) today announced the commercial availability of the new MC5720 PCI Express Mini Card wireless module for CDMA 1xEV-DO networks, the first product in the Sierra Wireless PCI Express Mini Card product line. In collaboration with Lenovo, select models of ThinkPad Z60t and Z60m notebooks with an integrated MC5720 module will provide an "AirCard Enabled™" experience to mobile customers. The first ThinkPad notebooks with the integrated MC5720 module are expected to be available to customers in the United States in October.

The Sierra Wireless PCI Express Mini Card is the first product in the Mini Card series of embedded modules designed to integrate into portable computing devices, delivering the benefits of 3G speeds in a conveniently integrated form and the reliability and functionality users have come to expect from Sierra Wireless' award-winning AirCard products.

"With 10 years experience working with OEMs to integrate wireless wide area network technology into a variety of devices, as well as industry leading development of products for EV-DO network technology, Sierra Wireless has the integration and certification expertise we needed to be first to market," said Mark Cohen, Distinguished Engineer & Director of Think Offering Management for Lenovo. "In addition, Sierra Wireless is known for delivering high quality, reliable products and a comprehensive suite of integration tools - critical factors in delivering this solution on time to our customer base."

"We congratulate Sierra Wireless and Lenovo on their successful integration of EV-DO wireless broadband capabilities using QUALCOMM chipsets," said Dr. Sanjay K. Jha, President of QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies. "By using integrated wireless solutions, laptop customers will benefit from a great out-of-the box user experience, as well as ubiquitous broadband wireless connectivity."

"We are pleased to work with Lenovo to deliver a high-quality, fully integrated 3G mobile computingpackage to mobile professionals," said Trent Punnett, Vice President of Marketing for Sierra Wireless. "By joining forces with a market leader like Lenovo, Sierra Wireless can ensure notebook customers are experiencing the most advanced wireless data solutions available on the market today. Customers will rely on the convenience and simplicity of an embedded wireless link, and the new MC5720 PCI Express Mini Card provides a cost effective and efficient way for Lenovo to integrate EV-DO access into laptops."

The dual-band MC5720 PCI Express Mini Card, built using the MSM6500™ Mobile Station Modem™ chipset from QUALCOMM, offers typical download data rates of 400-700 kbps, with peak speeds up to 2.4Mbps. To provide coverage in areas where an EV-DO network connection is not available, the MC5720 module is also compatible with widely available 1X networks and will seamlessly switch without interruption to the user.

The MC5720 is Sierra Wireless' third product for EV-DO networks, building on six years of CDMA products and two years of EV-DO commercial experience since the launch of the company's first EV-DO wireless wide area PC card in 2003.

Sierra Wireless will be showcasing the MC5720 at the 2005 CTIA Wireless IT and Entertainment Expo, September 27-29, 2005, in San Francisco.
