Wavecom makes TCP/IP Internet access a standard feature for all of its GPRS and CDMA wireless machine-to-machine and automotive solutions
Issy-les-Moulineaux, France-May 23, 2005

Wavecom SA (NASDAQ: WVCM; Euronext Eurolist AVM; ISIN: FR0000073066), a leader in pre-packaged wireless communications solutions for automotive, industrial machine-to-machine and mobile professional applications, today announced a new offer that makes basic Internet access through TCP/IP a standard feature in all of its GPRS and CDMA wireless solutions.

Olivier Beaujard, Group V.P. for Marketing at Wavecom commented “We want to make wireless communication between machines as easy as possible and available to everyone.  So, when we recognized that virtually all of our customers, no matter what the application, need some basic level of Internet access, we decided to make it a standard feature in our products.”

Customers can benefit from TCP/IP by enabling devices to be connected to the Internet for any market application. Furthermore, using Wavecom’s Open AT, the most powerful cellular embedded application development environment, customers can create intelligent Internet-connected applications directly on the module, thus shortening development time and reducing additional development and materials cost.

Wavecom was the first wireless provider to offer a full Internet package in its products for all applications needing to send and receive emails or other files to and from the Internet. Now, Wavecom launches an entry level, pre-packaged solution for any application requiring basic connectivity with the Internet on all of its products as a standard feature. The Internet packages plug into Wavecom’s own operating system affording customers more flexibility in being able to use whatever Internet protocols are needed for a specific application.

The entry level TCP/IP Plug-In, known as M2M407, is available on the full range of Wavecom solutions including GPRS and CDMA. The optional, high level Internet Plug-In, known as M2M410, is available only on Wavecom’s GPRS offering..

The entry level TCP/IP Plug-In includes:

  • TCP, IP, DNS, UDP with TCP and UDP sockets and,
  • Protocol services in both the external mode (via AT commands) and the internal mode (via Open AT APIs).

The optional Internet Plug-In includes all of the standard features of the TCP/IP Plug-In plus additional high end Internet protocol features:  Email (POP3 to receive and SMTP to send), File Transfer (FTP).

A common interface between the standard TCP/IP Plug-In and the optional Internet Plug-In lets customers migrate their GPRS products from the entry-level to premium-level easily and without further development time or cost.

Users are seeing clear advantages in choosing the Wavecom solution.  According to Davide Basstto, Sales and Marketing Manager for AP Systems in Italy, “Wavecom's Internet connectivity combined with Open AT flexibility have allowed us to implement value-added features very quickly to our vertical applications for metering, fleet management and tele-controlling. Furthermore, the "always on" communication to the Internet and the possibility of embedding the application software directly onto the Wavecom module are giving us many technical and economical advantages in comparison to our competitors.”

The TCP/IP Plug-In is now available on Wavecom GPRS and CDMA products as a standard feature.
