WISMO Quik Q2400 Provides Robust, Field-Proven Plug-In Solution for GSM voice, SMS and Data/Fax Functions.
Issy-les-Moulineaux, France -March 15, 2004
Wavecom SA (NASDAQ: WVCM; Euronext: AVM; ISIN: FR0000073066) announced today the latest addition to its range of WISMO Quik wireless modules, the WISMO Quik 2400, an entry-level solution perfectly adapted to the needs of wireless local loop (WLL) and simple machine-to-machine applications.

In many countries in the world, there is a great unsatisfied demand for telephone services. Increasingly, wireless technology is being used to provide new subscribers with high-quality telephone services at reasonable prices, especially in regions where fixed telephone infrastructure is overburdened, obsolete or inexistent. WLL enables landline operators to extend their networks, and cellular operators to capitalize on existing infrastructures by delivering residential services, meeting the telephony needs of a community quickly and easily.

Wireless local loop is one of the fastest-growing vertical markets for wireless applications, and Wavecom expects the global market to grow from two million units in 2003 to some 10 million units in 2006.

The Q2400 module is ideal for wireless local loop and simple machine-to-machine applications. Building on the field-proven, customer-tested Wavecom GSM protocol stack, the Q2400 ensures trouble-free operations on networks worldwide. It is cost-effective and allows manufacturers to benefit from hands-free audio, multi-call management, and MMI interfaces such as LCD and keypad.

For the fastest route to market, Wavecom offers a unique Reference Design Package (RDP) which includes the Q2400 module plus a complete hardware reference design and reference software features. For a customized solution, manufacturers of fixed wireless telephones can use Wavecom’s Open AT toolkit to create their own user interfaces and embed them directly on the Q2400 module. Finally, by combining the module with an external processor, customers can create innovative products and offer virtually unlimited features thanks to the more than 250 AT commands supported by the Q2400.

Commenting on the announcement Olivier Beaujard, Wavecom’s Vertical Applications Marketing Director, said: “In 2003 alone, Wavecom helped more than 30 manufacturers successfully bring over 100 different models of fixed wireless phones to market. While we have already established a solid customer base for WLL in China, South Africa and Latin America, we also see great potential in countries such as India and Russia. The WISMO Quik Q2400 is a response to the specific needs of WLL applications, and will secure our position as the leading wireless technology provider in this market, which represents great future potential for Wavecom.”

The Q2400 RDP will be available for Chinese fixed wireless telephone clients in May 2004 and in South Africa, India and Latin America within the first half of 2004.

Wavecom will present the WISMO Quik Q2400, as well as its other product ranges, at CeBIT in Hanover from 18-23 March 2004 (Hall 12, Stand D40).
