Wavecom's WISMO Pac Wins Electronic Products' Product of the Year Award

A Complete GSM/GPRS Solution in the Form of a Single Component.
Issy-les-Moulineaux, France-February 03, 2003

Wavecom SA (Nasdaq: WVCM; Euronext Nouveau Marché: 7306), the world’s number one provider of integrated wireless modules, today announced that its WISMO Pac module has been chosen as one of the winners of Electronic Products magazine’s 2002 Product of the Year Awards.

The Product of the Year Awards, which has been running for 27 years, honours the most outstanding products introduced in the past 12 months. Selections, made by the editors of Electronic Products magazine and announced in the January issue of the publication, are based on significant advantages in technology or its application, a decided innovation in design or a substantial gain in price-performance.

Wavecom’s WISMO Pac was honoured because the judges felt it combined several innovations that give PDA and mobile phone designers a complete GSM/GPRS solution in a tiny 45.4 x 32.8 x 5mm package, weighing only 11g. One of the innovative ingredients is its Column Grid Array? (CGA) design, which combines shielding, mounting and connectivity in a single element. The CGA enables WISMO Pac to be automatically positioned and soldered onto a circuit board like any regular IC.

Aram Hékimian, CEO of Wavecom, said, "We are delighted that Wavecom's WISMO Pac has been recognised in its field by such a highly-respected and widely-read trade publication. This award is a further acknowledgment of Wavecom’s continued excellence in product innovation and development to meet the needs of designers around the world. We look forward to continuing to lead the communications revolution in 2003 and beyond".

Customers having embraced the WISMO Pac technology include ASE Telecom (Korea), Handspring (USA), Pantech (Korea), Soutec (PRC), TCL Mobile Communication (PRC) and Telson (Korea), as well as Wavecom’s latest customer win, Curitel (Korea).
