Nixxo Communications Selects Wavecom for Development of Wireless Communication Devices

Issy-les-Moulineaux, France and San Diego, USA-October 14, 2002
Wavecom SA (NASDAQ: WVCM; Euronext Nouveau Marche: 7306), the world’s number one provider of integrated wireless modules, today announced the signature of a contract with Nixxo Communications Corporation, a leading designer and manufacturer of wireless communication devices in the U.S., subsidiary of Standard Telecom Co., Ltd. (Korea).

The agreement provides Nixxo access to Wavecom’s GSM/GPRS and CDMA wireless modules for the development of mobile handsets and other wireless communications devices. The contract is a major win for Wavecom’s US subsidiary, with a contract size of one (1) million WISMO units.

Nixxo will use Wavecom’s WISMO modules to build mobile handsets covering all four GSM/GPRS frequencies (850/900/1800/1900 MHz), offering “anywhere, everywhere” global roaming capabilities.

“Adopting the WISMO solution is an important step for Nixxo, providing us with greater flexibility and freedom of choice for design, and with superior time-to-market for our wireless handsets,” said Mike Hong, President and CEO of Nixxo Communications. “This agreement enables us to take advantage of Wavecom’s global expertise and use its GSM/GPRS technology, and ultimately CDMA technology, to shorten time-to-revenue,” Mike Hong continued.

“Wavecom is dedicated to working with leading handset manufacturers like Nixxo in the U.S. and worldwide to improve the performance and capabilities of current and next-generation wireless devices,” said Hany Neoman, President of Wavecom, Inc. “Our WISMO solution is well proven in the wireless market and we will continue to respond to the needs of the wireless device manufacturers, while working toward high performance products and reducing time-to-market for our customers.”
