Success of GSM handsets lead to follow-on sales to Sewon Telecom Co. of Korea.

Wavecom SA (Nasdaq: WVCM; Nouveau Marché: WAVECOM), a leading developer of digital wireless standard modules (WISMO™), today announced that Sewon Telecom Co., Ltd., one of Korea's largest telecommunications companies, has placed additional orders totaling 550,000 WISMO™ modules, raising the total number of WISMO2C modules ordered by Sewon to 750,000 units. This is the largest cumulative order for WISMOs that Wavecom has ever received.

Although details of the follow-on orders were not revealed, the companies noted that all terms and conditions, including price, were nearly identical to those of Sewon's first order for 200,000 WISMO? modules, under the contract signed in May 2000. This initial agreement allowed the company to expand its existing line of handsets rapidly and bring to market two new, sophisticated models, the SG1000 and SG1100, to meet fast-growing export demand.

"The WISMO solution allowed us to introduce two new models at the right time that are perfectly adapted to the market," said Sewon Director H.S. Han. "The products have been so successful that we decided to place a significantly larger second order for additional WISMO™ modules."

The SG1000 and SG1100 are currently sold in China and Spain. Sewon also plans to expand into other European countries in addition to Spain, as well as into the Middle East.

"Sewon Telecom is a key customer for Wavecom, and we are delighted to have their continued confidence. We are proud to participate in Sewon's success in the extremely competitive handset market," said Jean-Charles Andreani, managing director of Wavecom Asia Pacific Limited, Wavecom's Hong Kong subsidiary.

The WISMO2C dual band, plug-in module is a fully integrated device offering a full range of GSM Phase 2+ features. GPRS compatible, the ultra-compact and lightweight WISMO2C is the best choice for applications where space is limited.
