Wavecom opens Tokyo branch office

Japanese operation will promote WISMO™ technology and help coordinate next generation UMTS development.

Wavecom S.A. (NASDAQ: WVCM; Nouveau Marché: WAVECOM), a leading developer of digital wireless standard modules (WISMO™) today announced the opening of its branch office in Japan. Located in Tokyo, the new Japanese office will promote sales of Wavecom products and help coordinate development of next generation UMTS solutions.

"The time is right for Wavecom to build on commercial successes with Japanese customers, such as Mitsubishi and NEC Corp.," said Jean-Charles Andreani, Managing Director of Wavecom Asia Pacific Ltd., the Wavecom subsidiary in Hong Kong which oversees operations in Japan. "The Tokyo office will also serve as a key coordination center as we ramp up development of next generation, UMTS WISMO technology."

The Tokyo office is headed by Hideyuki Uejima, who joined Wavecom after many years with NEC Corporation, most recently as Assistant General Manager for the Media Terminal Sales Promotion Division.
