Marking a New Milestone for IoT Solutions

by Marc Overton, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Cloud and Connectivity Services Business Unit
Gartner published its Magic Quadrant for Managed M2M Services, Worldwide on December 3, 2018, and authored by Pablo Arriandiaga, Eric Goodness, et al., and Sierra Wireless is recognized for the third year in a row. The report evaluated our AirVantage® IoT Platform, SIMs and Connectivity Services. We see our inclusion as a strong proof point that Sierra Wireless is evolving our IoT Solutions business in the right direction to help our customers connect and deploy their global IoT applications.

In 2015, we had just entered the service and connectivity market through a series of strategic acquisitions. In 2016, we were introducing exciting innovations to market, like our ready-to-connect solutions, Low Power Wide Area technology, and mangOH® open source developer program, and in 2017, we acquired Numerex, further expanding our service and connectivity offerings in the U.S. market.

We have now grown our services business to more than 3.7 million managed connections, with significant growth in adoption of our complete device-to-cloud (D2C) solution. We are very excited to see that Gartner has positioned Sierra Wireless as a Visionary in the 2018 Magic Quadrant. We believe our D2C solution makes IoT deployment easier and speeds up the product development process, aspects we feel are validated by our placement in the Visionaries quadrant in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant.

Our unique D2C solution allows our customers to connect and manage their IoT devices and mobile subscriptions. It includes the AirVantage® IoT platform, which provides a single pane of glass to manage every device in an IoT deployment, regardless of what network they are operating on. AirVantage is integrated with Sierra Wireless edge devices and eUICC-enabled Smart SIMs, providing a global connectivity service that enables companies to streamline their operations, offer new services and transform their business. The combination of Sierra Wireless and Numerex (which was not factored into this year’s Magic Quadrant results) is allowing us to drive a global leadership position in IoT services and solutions.

Our vision is to remove barriers for customers by taking the complexity out of IoT, making it simple to access the best connectivity anywhere in the world based on the needs of their IoT use cases. This is unlocking countless new IoT business models and applications.

Start with Sierra to simplify your IoT deployment experience, reduce time to market and avoid the complexity pitfalls of IoT.
