Guidepoint™ GSM Anti-Theft Device to Feature Wavecom Solutions

Aftermarket telematics solution to feature wireless modules
Pontiac, MI and Issy-les-Moulineaux (France)-June 28, 2005

Guidepoint™ and Wavecom announced that Guidepoint’s new GSM/GPRS telematics solution will feature state-of-the-art wireless modules supplied by Wavecom S.A. (NASDAQ: WVCM), a leader in pre-packaged wireless communications solutions for automotive, industrial machine-to-machine and mobile professional applications.

The Wavecom modules will be integrated into Guidepoint’s latest telematics device that targets the automotive aftermarket.  The anti-theft device is specifically designed to track stolen vehicles, thus meeting the requirements of some insurers for this type of tracking on mid-range to high-end cars.

The Pontiac, Michigan-based aftermarket telematics supplier said the new units communicate thanks to  Wavecom’s GSM/GPRS and CDMA solutions: the Quik Q2426 and Q2438.  Wavecom’s wireless modules are the only interchangeable solutions available on the market today for dual band GSM/GPRS and CDMA/1xRTT. This offers greater flexibility and reduces development and certification costs thus, facilitating telematics expansion.

Guidepoint uses GPS satellites, wireless networks, the Internet and always open response centers to deliver safety, security, convenience and productivity services to the vehicle and driver.

“We’re pleased to partner with Wavecom, which is the acknowledged leader in the wireless technology market for original equipment manufacturers,” said Tom Gafford, vice president of product development.  “We look forward to working closely with them to develop new telematics-based applications for the consumer and business-to-business markets.”

Pierre Piver, President of Wavecom, Inc. said “we believe that the insurance industry stands to be a major beneficiary from the use of wireless-enabled tracking devices like this one from Guidepoint and we’re delighted that they have chosen to work with Wavecom.”
