Wavecom is Expanding

GSM innovator announces intention to create 90 positions. Nearly 70% in Research and Development.

Wavecom SA (Nasdaq: WVCM; Nouveau Marché: WAVECOM), a leading developer of digital wireless standard modules (WISMO™) has announced its intention to hire up to 90 people, primarily engineers, before the end of the year. The recruitment campaign will increase the company's employees by 40%, globally. The move will ensure that Wavecom continues to advance its leadership in innovation on world GSM markets, while maintaining its development effort on emerging standards, including GPRS and the Third Generation GSM wireless standard, known as UMTS.

To date, Wavecom employs 220 people, of which nearly 70 % are research engineers. The new positions will be allocated to software development, radio technology, ASIC RF, component technologies, as well as to reinforce sales, marketing, production and quality assurance teams.

In keeping with Wavecom's development strategy, this recruitment effort reinforces the company's new organization put in place January 2000. The company is organized into five functional departments and three geographic units. Based in Issy-les-Moulineaux, near Paris, Wavecom is also present in Asia and the United States. The new positions will be at the company's headquarters, and its offices in Hong Kong and San Diego.
