Upgrade instructions for Windows CE .NET
PLEASE NOTE: To successfully upgrade the AirCard 550 software of your .NET device, you must first remove the existing version of software and then install the new version. Please read all instructions fully before starting the upgrade process.
The upgrade process follows these four main procedures as detailed below:
- Download the upgrade to a host computer.
- Remove (uninstall) the existing version of the PCS Connection Manager software from the .NET device.
- Install the updated software to the .NET device.
- Run the new software to automatically update the AirCard firmware.
Download to the host:
- Select the Download Now button to start the download process.
- You must confirm the service provider and platform, and accept the software license agreement on the page that appears, and click the Download Now button in that window to access the executable file.
- From the File Download window that appears, select the option to, "Save this Program to Disk" and click OK.
- In the Save As dialog box, in the "Save in" field, select Desktop. Leave the File name unchanged. Click Save.
Remove the existing version from the Handheld PC:
- Close the PCS Connection Manager software.
- Eject the AirCard 550 from the .NET device.
- Select Start > Settings > Control Panel
- Double-tap the Remove Programs icon
- Select Sierra Wireless AirCard 550 Handheld and tap Remove
- Tap Yes to remove the program
Upon completion of this, your .NET device displays a message indicating that the Uninstall is complete. If your .NET device indicates that files or folders have not been removed, you can safely ignore the message and move on to installing the upgrade.
Install the update to the .NET device:
- On the desktop of the host computer, double-click the downloaded file (AC550S_CEdotNET.exe) to open the WinZip Self-Extractor.
- Click Unzip to extract the installation files into a new folder on the desktop.
- Close the WinZip Self-Extractor.
- On the desktop, double-click the new folder (AC550S_CEdotNET) to open it.
- In the AC550_CDdotNET folder, double-click Setup.exe to start the installation process.
- Follow the installation wizard prompts to install the update to the host.
- Using ActiveSync, connect your .NET device to the host computer.
You may be advised to reset the .NET device to complete the installation.
- Disconnect your .NET device from the host.
Install the firmware to the AirCard:
- Insert the AirCard 550 into your .NET device.
- Start PCS Connection Manager (if it does not autolaunch).
If the firmware in the AirCard is older than that supplied with this update, you are advised to update the card.
- Follow the prompts to update the firmware.
The process may take 2 to 3 minutes.
Upon completion of the firmware update, the .NET device and AirCard are ready to use. When the upgrade is complete, you may safely delete the download file and extracted folder from the host.
