AirCard® 300/350 - Unable to install AirCard300 on Windows 2000
This document covers the following products:
AirCard® 300 Wireless Network Card - part number 1200046 AirCard® 350 Wireless Network Card - part number 1200104 Sierra Wireless AirCard® 300/350 Wireless Network Card Software for Notebooks (R1.1.1.)
The part number is located on the back of the AirCard® cellular card.
Symptoms
- Wireless Expert can not communicate with the modem
- AirCard® 300/350 appears in Device Manager as Other Devices instead under Network Adapters
Resolution
To correct the Symptoms above you must first remove the AirCard® 300/350 Software and Drivers. To accomplish this follow the steps listed.
1. Removing AirCard 300 Software From Your Computer
1.1 Remove the AirCard PC Card driver
- Select Start>Settings>Control Panel .
- Double-click System icon in the Control Panel.
- Select Hardware tab .
- Click Device Manager button.
- Click (+) sign next to Network adapters (Note: May be next to Other Devices)
- Right-click Sierra Wireless AirCard 300 CDPD
- Select Uninstall . (Note: A warning stating, "You are about to uninstall this device from your system" will appear)
- Click OK
- Close Device Manager and System Properties windows.
You should be back at the Control Panel window. If not select Start>Settings>Control Panel and then go on to the next step.
1.2 Remove the application programs
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs
- Click AirCard 3xx
- Click Change/Remove button (Note: A Windows warning will appear and prompt you, "Do you wish to proceed?" Click Yes .
- When action is complete. Click OK .
- Close Control Panel window
The AirCard software has now been removed. Restart your system to ensure the driver is detached from the current Windows session.
2. Updating Software
Note: An updated version of the AirCard® 300/350 driver cannot be installed from the CD. To obtain the latest version, download Sierra Wireless AirCard® 300/350 Wireless Network Card Software for Notebooks (R1.2.1).
2.1 Downloading Sierra Wireless Software (R1.2.1)
- Make sure you are connected to the Internet
- Click here to obtain the right software
- Select Software Downloads link
- Select Notebooks and Handhelds link
- Select Windows 95/98/NT/2000/Me/XP link
- Enter EID number located on back of AirCard and your Carrier Name
- Select ?I am installing this notebook software for the first time ? option
- Click Download Now . (Note: You will be prompted that you are downloading a file)
- Click Save. (Note: It is simplest to save the file to your desktop)
- Close out all windows when download is complete
2.2 Unzipping the Download (AC300_NB_R121.exe.)
- Double-click downloaded file. (Note: A window will pop up)
- Select Unzip (Note: A folder will be created and placed on your desktop)
- Open folder called AC300_NB_R121
- Double-click AirCard 3XX icon to begin installation
- Click Finish when installation complete (Note: process is quite rapid)
Once the software installation is completed then insert the AirCard 300 into the PC Card Slot.
3. Upgrading the Driver
- Select Start>Settings>Control Panel
- Double-click System
- Select Hardware tab,
- Select Device Manager button
- Click the (+) sign next to Network Adapters
- Right-click Sierra Wireless AirCard 300 CDPD Adapter
- Select Update Driver
- Select Install form a list or specific location. Click Next
- Click Browse and select Desktop and choose the downloaded file AC300_NB_R121 (Note: Make sure its the folder not the zipped file)
- From Folder select Win2k
- Click OK
You have now completed the Driver Upgrade
