ID: KC090600A Network Properties for AirCard 300/350 Installations This document cover the following products: Sierra Wireless Aircard 300/350 Resolutions The following ideas are to help troubleshoot an installation of A Sierra Wireless AirCard 300 or Sierra Wireless AirCard 350. The settings described here are the default settings after installation of the Aircard. In Windows 95/98: - Check Under the Network icon in Control Panel (gotoStart>Settings>Control Panel click on the Network icon).
- Under the Configuration tab, ensure that the card is installed (you should be able to view it as an adapter- with a small green icon next to it). If it is not, the card has not been installed correctly; you will need to install it again.
- Ensure that the protocol TCPIP appears under the network properties. If it does not, click on the Add Button. Select Protocols, and then select TCPIP, click OK.
- If both the card and the TCPIP protocol appear, click on the card icon and then click the properties button and a new window will open. Click on the Bindings tab on the new window. Ensure that TCPIP is bound to the Sierra wireless card (this is shown as a small check mark in the box next to TCPIP). Click OK.
- Next, under the configuration tab, under the window showing all the installed components, click on the TCPIP protocol that is shown as bound to the Sierra Wireless card. Click on Properties.
- Click on the IP address tab. Ensure that the "Obtain an IP address automatically" button has been selected.
- Click on the WINS tab. Ensure that the "Use DHCP for WINS resolution" button has been selected.
- Click on the DNS Configuration tab. Ensure that the "Enable DNS" button has been selected.
In Windows 2000 - Check Under the Network icon in Control Panel (gotoStart>Settings>Control Panel click on the Network and Dial up Connections icon).
- Select the CDPD ? Aircard icon. Right-click on it and select Properties from the pop up menu that appears.
- Under the General tab, ensure that the correct card is installed. The Sierra Wireless Aircard should appear under the "Connect using" box. If it does not, the card has not been installed correctly; you will need to install it again.
- Ensure that the Internet protocol (TCP/IP) appears under the network properties. If it does not, click on the Install Button. Select Protocols, and then click Add? select TCP/IP, click OK.
- Ensure that the box next to Internet protocol (TCP/IP) is checked.
- Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) protocol. Click on Properties.
- On the General tab, Ensure that the "Obtain an IP address automatically" button has been selected. Ensure that the "Obtain server DNS address automatically" button has been selected.
In Windows NT - Check Under the Network icon in Control Panel (gotoStart>Settings>Control Panel, click on the Network icon).
- On the Adapters tab, ensure that the Sierra Wireless Aircard has been installed.
- Click on the Adapter and click the properties button. Ensure that the IRQ and I/O address settings are available (for more information, see the install sheet that is shipped with the product).
- Under the Protocols tab, ensure that TCP/IP has been installed. Click on TCP/IP and click the properties button. Select the IP address tab, and ensure that "Obtain an IP address from a DHCP server" has been selected.
- Under the Bindings tab, select "Show bindings for: all adapters". Ensure that TCP/IP is found under the Sierra Wireless adapter.
