Hitachi HPW 630 ETR - Error when installing software

Symptoms

When installing the Watcher software from a host computer onto the Hitachi HPW CE device, the installation proceeds normally. When the installation is completed, an error message appears saying: "Could not download the applications. Please do a reset to install the downloaded applications".

When a manual installation is performed, by copying the relevant CAB file onto the Hitachi, the CAB file is not recognized by the Hitachi.

Resolution

Check the serial number of the Hitachi HPW 630 ETR. If it is less than 400, the Hitachi device is missing a windows CE program called WINCELDR. This program unzips the files required for any software program installations.

Go to the following FTP folder: ftp://anonymous@hitachiserviceusa.com/HPW630ETR/UpdateModule1

Download the u1630ETR.EXE file,

Follow the instructions in the Readme file in this directory for installing the file onto the Hitachi.

Reset the Hitachi device.

The computer will now be ready to run the installation of the Watcher software.
