AirCard 300 on Fujitsu PenCentra 200

This document covers the following products:
AirCard 300 AirCard 350

Symptoms

The installation of Watcher 1.0.3 for Windows CE 3.0 (HandHeld PC 2000) runs successfully. But after a soft reset and insertion of the Aircard 300, Wireless Expert fails to "Establish Dial UP Networking Connection" during the test portion of Wireless Expert.

Resolution

In order to configure the PenCentra 200 so that when you launch Internet Explorer the AirCard 300 automatically connects to the CDPD, Sierra Wireless offers this unsupported workaround.

1. Create a New Connectiod in Remote Networking by tapping: Start > Programs > Comm unication > Remote Networking

2. With Stylus, Double Tap Make New Connection, & Type any name for the connection. Select Dial-Up Connection > Next

3. Select AirCard CDPD Modem from Select a modem drop down

4. Tap TCP/IP Settings... & ensure Use Server-assigned IP address is checked & leave other check boxes as they are

5. Tap Name Servers tab & ensure Use Server-assigned addresses is checked

6. Tap OK

7. Tap Configure

8. In Port Settings, ensure Connection Preferences are set to: 19200, 8, None, 1, Hardware. Ensure Manual Dial and Terminals check boxes are all unchecked (blank).

9. Tap Call Options tab & ensure both Check Boxes are unchecked (blank)

10. Tap OK.

11. Tap on the "Next" button.

12. In Make New Dial-UP Connection set Country to 1, Area to 111 and Telephone Number to 2. Ensure Force Long Distance & Force Local are unchecked.

13. Tap Finish.

14. To test the connection, Double Tap My Connection icon & Tap Connect. The Red LED on the Aircard should light and a Dial Up Networking icon will appear in the System Tray. Connected to AirCard CDPD dialog box will be displayed and indicate Connected. Tap Hide. You can now launch Internet Explorer to browse the Internet.

Additional Tip: In order to launch Internet Explorer and automatically connect to CDPD network you will need to:

1. Double Tap Internet Explorer icon from the Desktop

2. Tap OK when Internet Explorer complains that "A connection to the server could not be established"

3. Tap View > Internet Options > Connections & Check Use Auto Dial check box & Choose My Connection (or whatever name you used for the connection is Step 2) as the Dial Up network connection used to access the Internet.

4. Tap OK

5. Tap File > Close

6. To surf, Double Tap Internet Explorer icon on the Desktop, Tap "Connect" Dial Up Connection Window.
