Android is an Operating System mainly targeting wireless devices such as smartphones, tablets and eBooks.
For the majority of AirPrime high-speed MC Series and smart SL Series wireless modules, Sierra Wireless provides the software packages for Android. It includes USB drivers for the basic module communication, RIL (Radio Interface Layer) and GPS HAL (GPS Hardware Abstract Layer) to translate wireless and positioning Android commands into embedded module commands.
Sierra Wireless has developed solutions for several Android versions (such as Froyo 2.2, Gingerbread 2.3 and Honeycomb 3.0/3.1) and is constantly following the Android evolution.
In order to guarantee a turn-key solution, Sierra Wireless is also working closely with application processor suppliers to pass pre-certification tests required for wireless applications (GCF, PTCRB, carriers).
