European Union (EU) Directive 2002/96/EC - The Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment (WEEE), enforces European Community “producers” (domestic importers or original manufacturers) to pay for the collection, treatment, administration, recycling and recovery of waste electrical and electronic equipment. The intent is to protect the quality of the environment by recycling and reusing product components after they are no longer useful in the current product form.
While each European Union member administers their own WEEE policy process, common to all member states is the need to have the producer’s name appear on the product along with the WEEE “crossed out dustbin” symbol shown above. Our newest PC Cards have the above WEEE symbol on the reverse side of the product along with our name.
Sierra Wireless will be cooperating with the individual EU member states as recycling and recovery processes are developed, and this page will be updated accordingly.
