Wireless Technologies

GSM/GPRSGeneral Packet Radio Services - a 2.5-generation technology (being implemented in GSM networks) that may offer wireless data access speeds of up to 144 kilobits per second in end-user devices. Actual speed depends on the network conditions, coverage and load.

EDGEEnhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution - a 2.75-generation packet network that supports data rates of up to 384 kilobits per second. EDGE is an evolution in capacity, data speeds and new service capabilities from GPRS mobile networks. Actual speed depends on the network conditions, coverage and load.

UMTSUniversal Mobile Telecommunications System (also known as WCDMA) - a 3-generation packet-based network that supports data rates of up to 384 kilobits per second. UMTS represents an evolution in capacity, data speeds and new service capabilities from EDGE and GPRS mobile networks. Actual speed depends on the network conditions, coverage and load.

HSPAHigh-Speed Downlink Packet Access - a 3.5-generation packet-based technology that offers wireless data service speeds of up to 7.2 megabits per second. HSDPA represents an evolution in capacity, data speeds and new service capabilities from UMTS, EDGE and GPRS mobile networks. Actual speed depends on the network conditions, coverage and load.

CDMA 1 X RTTCode Division Multiple Access - a 2.75-generation wideband technology used in digital cellular, personal communications services. Supports Internet connections with data rates up to 153.6 kbps kbps. Actual speed depends on the network conditions, coverage and load.

CDMA 1X EV-DO Rel 0Code Division Multiple Access, Evolution Data-Only a 3G wideband standard for high speed wireless broadband. It is one of two major 3G wireless standards and supports data rates up to 2.4 megabits per second. EV-DO represents an evolution in capacity, data speeds and new service capabilities from 1X mobile networks. Actual speed depends on the network conditions, coverage and load.

CDMA 1X EV-DO Rev ACode Division Multiple Access, Evolution Data-Only, a 3G wideband standard for high speed wireless broadband. It is one of two major 3G wireless standards and supports data rates up to 3.1 Mbps download and data rates up to 1.8Mbps upload. EVDO Revision A represents an evolution in capacity, data speeds, and new service capabilities from EVDO Rel 0 mobile networks. Actual speed depends on the network conditions, coverage and load.

gpsOne®QUALCOMM’s proprietary position-location technology which can be taken in advance of when developing with Sierra Wireless CDMA-based embedded modules.

Device Capabilities

Speed Max DownlinkThe theoretical maximum speeds experienced by users when transmitting data from another location to their computers (eg. receiving emails or files). These speeds are dependant on factors including network conditions, coverage and load. 3.1 Mbps 3.1 Mbps 3.1 Mbps 7.2 Mbps 7.2 Mbps 7.2 Mbps 3.6 Mbps
