Guide to Sierra Wireless
AirCard 510 on Windows XP! Professional:
Please note the following UNSUPPORTED workaround has been released as a convenience to Sprint/Bell Mobility customers to aid Sierra Wireless AirCard 510 users in getting the drivers up and running on the Windows XP operating system.
· Please note that there are many ways arrive at the appropriate screen in Windows XP!, which may vary slightly, depending based on your configuration. For this reason two or more methods may be listed and you will have to choose the method appropriate for your Operating System configuration.
· Enter implies either a double click or a single click depending on the configuration of your Operating System.
· Actions are in Bold Italics
· Names or Titles appear in Bold.
· Administrative Rights are required for any of the following procedures:
Note: To download the software and/or drivers proceed to Step 1, otherwise, proceed to Step 15.
Downloading Software:
1) Go to the Sierra Wireless website (www.sierrawireless.com)
2) Next to the Support and Download link select the AirCard 510 link.
3) Select your service provider, either Sprint PCS Wireless Web Modem or Sierra Wireless AirCard 510.
4)
Select the Software Downloads
link.
5) Select the link AirCard 510 for Notebooks (R 1.2.6).
6) The following should appear on your screen:

7) Select Save and the following screen should appear:

***NOTE: If the Save
in: field (see picture above) does not show Desktop select the dropdown
arrow and then select the location as the Desktop.
8) There should now be a file on your Desktop labelled AC510S_NB_R126.exe.
***NOTE: The above mentioned file may not have an S in it depending on your service provider.
9) Enter the file by either a double click or a single click (depending on the configuration of your Operating System) and the following should appear.

10) Select Unzip
11) You should receive the following notification:

12) Select OK
13) Select Close
14) You should now have a folder on your desktop labelled AC510S_NB_R126
***NOTE: The above mentioned folder may not have an S in it depending on your service provider.
Installing the Sierra Wireless AirCard 510 Software:
15) Enter the AC510S_NB_R126 folder on your Desktop
16) Enter the file AC510S_NB_R126.exe
***NOTE: You may not se the .exe extension on the file depending on the configuration of your operating system
17) The install should proceed until you get the following notification (for Sprint Customers only):

18) Select OK
19) Select Next
20) Select Yes
21) Select Next
22) Select Next
23) Select Finish
***NOTE: The next section walks through the BlueKite software install which will only occur for Sprint PCS customers. If you are a Sprint PCS customer continue to the next step otherwise proceed to Step 33.
Installing the BlueKite Software:
24) The following screen should appear:

25) Select Next
26) Select Yes
27) Select Next
28) The following message will appear:

29) Select OK
30) Select Next
31) Select Next
32) There should now be a little blue kite in the Taskbar as follows:

Installing the Sierra Wireless AirCard 510 drivers:
33) Insert the Sierra Wireless AirCard 510 into the PC Card (PCMCIA) Slot.
34) The following message should appear in the task bar:

35) Followed by (you will not have to do any thing for this notification to appear)

36) Followed by (you will not have to do any thing for this notification to appear)

37) Followed by (you will not have to do any thing for this notification to appear)

38) Select Cancel
39) Now the following notification will appear:

40) Now navigate to the Computer Management utility that come with Windows XP! by using either of the methods below:
i.
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel
ii.
Start -> Control Panel
41) Enter either:
i.
Performance and Maintenance -> Administrative Tools
ii.
Administrative Tools
42) Enter Computer Management
43) Select Device Manager
44) In the Device Manager you should see the following:

45) Expand the Multifunction adapters category by Clicking on the + sign next to " Multifunction adapters
46) Right-Click the Generic Multifunction PC-Card option under the Multifunction adapters category
47) Select the Update Driver and the following screen should appear:

OR YOU MAY SEE THE FOLLOWING

48) Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)
49) Select Next
50) This should bring you to the following:

51) Select Dont search. I will choose the driver to install
52) Select Next and the following will appear:

53) Select Sierra Wireless AirCard 510 PC Card Parent
54) Select Next
55) The Microsoft digital signature notification should appear as follows:

56) Select Continue Anyway
57) Select Finish
58) Your Device Manager should now appear to have the Sierra Wireless AirCard 510 PC Card Parent (see below)

59) Depending on the machine the following should pop up before or after you select Finish from Step 57:

60) Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)
61) Select Next
62) This should (some cases have been reported as not seeing it) bring you to the following:

63) Select Dont search. I will choose the driver to install
64) Select Next and the following will appear:

65) Select Next
66) The Microsoft digital signature notification should appear as again
67) Select Continue Anyway
68) Select Finish
69) Your Device Manager should now appear to have the Sierra Wireless AirCard 510 Modem

70) Depending on the machine the following should pop up before or after you select Finish from Step 67:

71) Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)
72) Select Next
73) This should (some cases have been reported as not seeing it) bring you to the following:

74) Select Dont search. I will choose the driver to install
75) Select Next and the following will appear:

76) Select Next
77) The Microsoft digital signature notification should appear as again
78) Select Continue Anyway
79) Select Finish
80) Your Device Manager should now appear to have the Sierra Wireless AirCard 510 Status Port

81) You should now see the following message in your Task Bar (next to the clock):

82) Reboot the machine and start your Watcher software.
For more information on Watcher configuration please consult your service provider. Please note that all of the technical support for the AirCard 510 is being handled by Sprint (US) or Bell Mobility (Canada) . Please call their technical support line, 1-888-298-0756 for Sprint and 1-800-667-0123 for Bell Mobility. If their first line support is not able to solve the issue, they are able to escalate it within their organization to further resolve the issue. In addition, it is good to obtain driver support information from your provider as they have to certify the drivers for use on their network before release and may be able to give you updates on the progress of the certification process.
