eCamSecure delivers a total security solution for its customers on residential and commercial construction sites, building locations and commercial properties. They provide on-site monitoring systems that may compliment or augment the traditional on-site security officer and enhance a company's security program. The eCamSecure Monitoring System is a mobile, self contained, weather tight trailer, complete with cameras, wires, backup power and lights. The cameras can be equipped with motion detectors, and are accessible from anywhere, anytime, via the Internet. The device records up to 30 frames per second and transmits the images via the Internet to a command center and is monitored by eCamSecure personnel - which is less than the cost of a full time onsite security guard and more reliable than a patrol service. This system provides a cost effective security solution which both maintains visual and audio communication with a property at any time of the day.

In the past, on-site security officers could maintain visual contact with only one site at a time. In order to protect properties from increasing theft and vandalism, companies had to employ numerous officers to patrol sites which often led to high costs in a security budget. eCamSecure revolutionized traditional security where one security personnel could monitor several sites at one time. This solution provided cost savings to customers and dramatically lowered the total cost of security.
The eCamSecure system uses a combination of traditional and technological security services to provide a complete and total security solution. Event-triggered monitoring is based on motion detectors or external intrusion detectors and supports pre- and post-alarm recording capabilities. When any alarm event is triggered, an automatic alarm notification is sent via the Internet to a PC, pager or fax. This combination provides the best the industry has to offer in property monitoring including digital networked or standalone video transmission, audio, scheduled recording and on-demand playback and alarm management. The device is built to deliver images from the remote site to a command center in real-time, providing full color video from multiple cameras spanning various properties to any location on the network or the Internet. A central monitoring staff maintains both visual and audio communication with sites 24 hours a day, seven days a week, acting as both a full time and off site security officer. In addition, a remote surveillance security center conducts regular video ?guard tours' and documents any activity to ensure the surveillance system and camera are in proper working condition.

THE CHALLENGE
eCamSecure wanted to expand its service offering to its customers and provide increased convenience of its security services. It wanted to provide a reliable, effective and real time solution for protecting properties in remote areas. In the past, the eCamSecure Monitoring System would not operate in some remote areas because a high speed DSL cable or phone line was not yet available. With no phone infrastructure in place, eCamSecure had to turn some customers away or wait until a line was installed which often took valuable time.
Many of eCamSecure's customers use camera surveillance as a security measure for construction or development site applications and to monitor work crews at remote sites. Camera surveillance and monitoring is also an investigative technique used to prove and disprove an issue or incident. Investigators use cameras as technological aids to conduct surveillance of persons, property or vehicles - it is a valuable and necessary tool to protect the investment of any company. With cameras being used with increased frequency as a viable security tool in construction sites, shipping and receiving areas, storage areas, recreation areas, and commercial development sites, eCamSecure needed an effective mobile solution that would operate in remote sites when no cable or phone line was available.

With companies spending between $5,000 and $6,000 per month on security they look to technology to offer an alternative to fit within a security budget. Although technology cannot replace a human guard in all situations, on smaller sites, this is the most cost effective solution. In fact, a company can save approximately half of their budget using an on-site technology security solution. It was in eCamSecure's interest to find a solution to fit the requirements of its ?remote' customers and a situation they were determined to fix.
eCamSecure wanted to invest in a fast, reliable wireless solution that would operate in remote areas and provide the same level of service as a DSL line so they would no longer have to turn customers away. In order to take advantage of new business opportunities, eCamSecure turned to the Sierra Wireless AirCard 555 as a way to reach customers they couldn't reach before.

Few options were available to eCamSecure and its customers until they uncovered the AirCard 555 operating on the Verizon Wireless Express Network in June 2002. When they realized the AirCard 555 was the solution they were looking for, they ordered product on Monday, received and tested product on Wednesday, and installed units into eCamSecure devices on Friday - ready for new customers. Two months later they have approximately 40 new wireless devices equipped with an AirCard 555 in remote sites - 40 additional sites that eCamSecure could not service 3 months ago without this new wireless technology. Future projections include 1,000 new wireless units by the end of the year, with plans to implement more wireless eCamSecure devices across the United States in the new year.
