Challenges

In order to make event photos available to attendees in real-time, PIP needed to upgrade from its USB modem to a more powerful Mac-compatible connectivity solution with easy setup and reliable Internet connectivity from anywhere.

“While traveling around the country and working late nights, having to wait for your images to upload after an event was the last thing we wanted to do,” said Joe Miller, co-founder and CEO of Polite in Public. “We had to step it up to do mobile distribution and wanted the top of the line – the biggest, most robust solution available. Our gear has to be rugged, reliable, and it just has to work.”

Solution

With the assistance of Sierra Wireless partner Industrial Networking Solutions, PIP selected the Sierra Wireless AirLink™ MP881W GPS router, equipped with an 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi chip to increase flexibility and enable mobile hotspots with enhanced WAP security. Operating over next generation HSUPA networks, the MP881W mobile router is backwards compatible to accommodate areas where such coverage is not yet available.

With the reliable connectivity and transmission speeds provided by the AirLink MP881W, Polite in Public is now able to wirelessly upload images on-site and post to viewable galleries within 5 – 10 minutes of snapping a shot. The company has also started setting up signup kiosks that allow event attendees to immediately view their images and post them to Facebook or Twitter, or elect to have the photos delivered to a smart device.

Polite in Public’s cellular connectivity solution using the AirLink MP881W mobile GPS router produced the following benefits:

• Reduced time and labor costs by eliminating need for device training and post-event labor
• Provided immediate product availability with real-time, two-way data transmission from anywhere
• Provided secure, reliable cellular and Wi-Fi connectivity required for mobile apps
• Provided device portability for re-deployment at each new PIP event location
