Challenges

Traditionally, data was collected from the vibration monitor, which proved both time-consuming and labor-intensive. With monitors located at remote mining or quarry sites, consultants found themselves traveling great distances to retrieve data, which resulted in inconsistent and often delayed analysis. Depending upon workload and scheduling, it could take anywhere from a day to several weeks for the data results to be accurately reported.

To help minimize these issues, Instantel initiated the use of landline modems for remote monitoring applications. This process, however, was dependant on the parameters of the wired networks, and often times wireline service was not available where the remote mining and quarry instrumentation was located.
