Home Technology has supplied equipment for high-end home automation systems that allow consumers to remotely control environmental and security components like temperature, power, water usage, location tracking and surveillance to improve energy efficiency and home safety and to reduce the utilization and cost of utilities.

In order to drive broader market adoption, Home Technology is targeting the do-it-yourself consumer market by introducing a home automation gateway that is both affordable and easy-to-use, with a web application for computers and smartphones through which consumers can manage their environmental security and efficiency features.

Solution

Home Technology turned to the Sierra Wireless AirVantage Platform to enable quickand easy development, deployment and operation of Home Technology’s home443 automation appliance. AirVantage Platform is an M2M Platform as a Service that allows solution providers, like Home Technology, to develop end-user applications and remotely manage their assets to provide superior customer support without investing time and money on the personnel required for large-scale development, deployment and support efforts.

The Home Technology home443 appliance provides both ADSL Ethernet and GPRS cellular connectivity options, the latter of which is provided by the Sierra Wireless AirPrime WMP100 wireless module. AirVantage Platform provides comprehensive development and configuration tools for the solution provider, as well as an operating portal for on-going operational management. The Home Technology web application allows consumers to easily configure additional home automation equipment, such as plugs and sensors – or solution features, such as in-home location tracking. Consumers can also program alert notifications based on pre-set thresholds of their determination. 

Because of the lower development cost, faster time to market and better deployment efficiencies afforded by AirVantage Platform, Home Technology is able to provide a comprehensive home automation solution at a lower price point than its competitors.
